Tantalum

Tantalum

Metalysis is producing sample volumes of metallurgical grade tantalum in its development cell. These are being supplied to its partners for characterisation and further development work. The Company’s planned product range is listed below. Chemical and physical specification sheets will be available on product launch.

Tantalum product will be available initially in powder form and the Company is working on techniques to directly consolidate its powders into wire, plate and sheet products.

Commercially Pure Tantalum:

  • Metallurgical Grade Tantalum

    Metallurgical Grade

Metallurgical grade tantalum is used in applications that include liners in chemical reaction vessels (corrosion resistance to both acids and alkalines), components in jet engines including turbine blades (creep resistance), biotechnology (biostability) and in spluttering targets.

Metalysis is scaling up its production to provide small quantities of tantalum powder as a feedstock for a range of specialist alloy applications. Please contact the company for further details.

Status: In scale-up. Samples being provided to selected partners

  • Electronics Grade Tantalum

    Electronics Grade

Tantalum is used in capacitors for light and small high value electrical devices such as laptops, PDA’s, iPods, MP3, DS’s etc. The value of the tantalum is dependent both purity and morphology, including surface area, packing density, particle size distribution and flow.

Metalysis has the ability to control and alter the surface area of its powders during the FFC process, thus producing powders to suit individual customer requirements in both the wet and dry capacitor markets. For instance, Metalysis can produce powders to suit high voltage applications where rapid current dissipation and specific morphology is required.

Metalysis is working with partners to resolve the remaining impurity issues.

    Status: In development.
