Carbides

The process used by Metalysis can also produce carbides through the reduction of a mixture of the metal oxide and carbon. Carbides are largely consumed in the powder form making the product a good fit with the FFC technology. Furthermore, the process can be used to make the more exotic, high value carbides such as tantalum carbide and chromium carbide (as well as the more general tungsten carbide and silicon carbide.) Metalysis has successfully made tantalum carbide in its Development cell.

The FFC Process has been proven to make titanium, tungsten and tantalum carbides.
