Metalysis Secures Rolls-Royce Participation in Malaysian Tantalum Programme
Metalysis is pleased to announce an agreement with Rolls-Royce Plc covering research and development activities aimed at the production of tantalum via the FFC Cambridge process.
Rolls-Royce has agreed as part of its offset programme in Malaysia to provide funding for the scale-up of the process for the production of high purity tantalum powder in Malaysia. Metalysis has formed a Malaysian subsidiary, Metalysis Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which will carry out the work.
Metalysis’ Chief Executive, Dr Graham Cooley said, “This is an excellent deal for Metalysis and Rolls-Royce is an ideal partner for us. This is an important step towards commercialisation of our process and we are looking forward to the start of operations in Malaysia.” Cooley explained that tantalum powder is a perfect first product for the Company and an excellent platform upon which to build strong revenue growth in the future.
Tantalum is a high value metal consumed largely in the powder form for the production of electronic components, particularly tantalum capacitors. Major end uses for tantalum capacitors include mobile phones, personal computers, and automotive electronics.
John Northridge, Rolls-Royce’s Senior Vice President, Business Operations, said, “Rolls-Royce is delighted to be working with Metalysis on this innovative project. We are particularly pleased to have been able to secure the development of this leading edge technology for Malaysia as a further demonstration of our long standing commitment to the country.
